November Skies

Awakening in the dark
From dreaded dreams of cold horrors, stealing your breath
No light, no warmth left
In the dreary sunless morning

Struggling to take a step forward
Groping for something clear, something out of reach
Blinded by the grey dusk of the dawn
Hammered down by the merciless sky

No one's staring at the sky
The grey petrified wall
Sad leaves cover the ground
Falling rain's the only sound
This cruel time, it has no soul
Smiting hope, drowning dreams
Your voice is lost in the wind
Devoured by the gruesome dream

So lost, feeling dead
Is it only in my head?
Tell me, do you feel this way
When the skies turn leaden and grey?

Death permeates the air
Its putrid stench smothers the earth
All wet, all rotten
The rain runs in the dark gutters

Strength leaves the body
You wander in a drunken haze, hugging the walls
Hoping no one sees your eyes
Emanating sadness

And now it's noon
The feeble rays of sun creep through the mist
Like rusty nails
Ripped from a coffin of a suicide victim

You stumble home
There's nothing there except darkness
You sit alone in the walls
Sipping cold tea and praying for a change

When you lay to rest
The rotten dreams come again at midnight
Leaving you with dread
The sun doesn't come to your aid

November skies are watching
With an all-seeing eye
They remember all your downfalls
They wait to wave you goodbye
They chronicle all your sorrows
And wait for you to weep
They never hide from your sight
While you wallow in your sleep
