Hold Your Breath

She walked out into the city streets
He watched her slide from view
As the knot in his stomach began to tell his head
What his heart already knew

She'd been late home every night from work
for the past month maybe two
And she looked so alive yeah and she hardly ever frowned
the way she used to do

And he knows she won't be home, but he'll still wait by the door

That she'd put there over all these years

And she had spent three hours doing her hair
the first date that they had had
And now she tries to explain herself again and again
but he just doesn't know he doesn't understan

And there's only so long you can hold your breath before your
body starts to fail you and you have to breathe again
because you always will move on and if you don't then it's the end, oh hell yes
